ITSPA renamed Comms Council UK to reflect the evolution of services
The Internet Telephony Services Providers Association, which represents the UK telecommunications and voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony industry, today announced its name change from Comms Council UK to “reflect the changing services of its members and support its engagement with its stakeholders. “
The longtime chairman of ITSPA / Comms Council UK, Eli Katz, notes that the industry has changed over the past two decades: “In 2004, when ITSPA was founded, Internet telephony was a niche and still viewed with apprehension. Now it’s the general public, with our members providing more than just phone calls to customers. It is now a mix of services including video, messaging, chat and collaboration tools, with IP becoming the backbone of our communication networks.. “
In practice, the rebranding exercise doesn’t seem to change much, and we’re not entirely convinced that it was absolutely necessary, but a new coat of paint certainly doesn’t hurt. The mandate of the CCUK will remain the same.
Eli Katz said:
“From a dozen original companies to an association of more than 100 members, we are getting better and better. Our members make Britain talk in its various forms and have played a fundamental role in supporting businesses and residential customers across the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.
There are many issues on the agenda that Comms Council UK needs to address; the most important being the deactivation of the national PSTN; the biggest change in UK telecommunications of our generation. We are already working hard to ensure that this process runs as smoothly as possible and that members are fully prepared to grow and support their customers through this huge change in the telecommunications industry.
It will only continue to change the way people communicate with each other, which is already changing drastically. Our members are ready for the many opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We look forward to this new chapter of our professional association. “
