How Skvare Open Source Champions Help Organizations Grow Their Work
What does it mean for a company to help other organizations achieve their mission to help others? For Gena Dellett and the team at Skvare (pronounced “square”), that means asking real, tough questions and avoiding shortcuts, while building long-term relationships. Gena joined MarketScale to answer a few questions about who they are as a company and where they are heading in 2022.
What should everyone know about your business and why?
My name is Gena Dellett, I’m Skvare’s COO. What I want everyone to know about Skvare is our amazing team. We’re a dedicated team of open source software champions, and have been since our beginnings in 2008. Along the way, we’ve worked with organizations of all shapes and sizes, nonprofits, member associations , educational organizations, helping them build their systems of meaning and impact to expand their mission and work.
The other thing I want everyone to know about Skvare is our team’s curiosity. Our ability to ask powerful and meaningful questions is the value we bring to the table. This is what sets us apart from other technology partners. This allows us to work with our customers in a way that they think bigger and expect more from their systems.
And by expecting more from their systems, that means they’ll be able to do their job better.
What are the biggest trends you expect to see in your industry throughout the year and into next?
Given that we work primarily with non-profits, membership associations, educational organizations, some of the trends we have seen and hope to continue to see are the building of real relationships and meaning in within online spaces. With COVID, that’s obviously where everyone had to go. Law? We went to our laptops, to our zoom screens.
And much of what we’ve learned over the past few years is being incorporated into organizations’ online technology strategies for greater impact now and in the future. It is a privilege to obtain, to build these systems with our partners and to allow us to implement our mission to help others, to help others.
How has your industry evolved in recent years?
One thing I love about the industry we work in is that we can help change expectations and raise the bar for what the organizations we work with, how, what they expect from their software, what that they expect from systems in which they invest real money and expect real results from what comes to deliver.
Meaningful training so that they can better take advantage of the features that exist in their system by better understanding how it works.
What are you excited about in 2022?
What I look forward to in 2022 is the work we are doing internally with our processes and team structure to strengthen our internal communication to deliver the highest quality to all of the clients we work with at worldwide.
Another thing I’m excited for 2022 is that we’re just celebrating birthdays with some of our customers who have been with us for years. It’s a pleasure to watch them change and grow over time. New team members, a different staff structure, a different use of the same tech tools they’ve always had.
And that we have been with them to be part of this implementation and use of their systems.
Another thing that excites me for 2022 is to keep having fun as a team. I think it’s really important, especially as an employer, that we take pride in having spaces where we know our employees are challenged and can think critically about real and difficult questions, find solutions to problems, having real and tangible relationships with colleagues, all add so much meaning to our lives.
To be able to kind of be, to be an employer that has that kind of culture and way of working, I know that affects and strengthens the relationships that we have with our clients. And it’s also a fulfilling and fulfilling place to be an employee and hopefully have a home for many years to come.
